About This Itinerary

Azerbaijan, the nation and former Soviet republic, is bounded by the Caspian Sea and Caucasus Mountains, which span Asia and Europe. Its capital, Baku, is famed for its medieval walled Inner City. Within the Inner City lies the Palace of the Shirvanshahs, a royal retreat dating to the 15th century, and the centuries-old stone Maiden Tower, which dominates the city skyline.

Baku – Gabala

Check-out from the hotel Passage to Baku – Gabala route: on the way visiting Diri Baba Mausoleum in Maraza. Continue to Juma Mosque, Mausoleum of Yeddi-Gyumbez in Shamakhi city. Drive through Girdimanchay River’s canyons to visit ancient Lahij village. Visiting workshops of blacksmithes, potteries, carpet weaving shop, cobbled stone streets. Lahij was one of the main points on Great Silk Road. Sheki - Baku

Check-out from the hotel Visiting local Eastern Bazaar of Sheki Continue trip back to Baku. Absheron Peninsula tour

Sightseeing tour to Absheron Peninsula: Fire Worshippers’ Temple – Ateshgah: The temple was built over a pocket of natural gas that fuelled a vent providing an ‘eternal’ fire which zoroastrians used to worship. Important Details

1) Azerbaijan Airlines, also known as AZAL, flies from Barcelona, Berlin, London, Paris and other European airports to Baku Heydar Aliyev International Airport, and further to Ganja, Lankaran, Zagatala und Gabala.
2) By train - There is a good train connection from Georgia to Azerbaijan
3) Visa -  People travelling to Azerbaijan are usually required to get a visa in advance, Electronic visas are valid for 30 days and are single entry
4) Language - Since gaining independence from the Soviet Union, Azerbaijani (or Azeri-Turkic) is the official language 
5) Best season to visit -  April to June, The hottest months are July and August, which are on average 26°C
6) Currency - The official currency in Azerbaijan has been the manat since 1992. After inflation in 2006, it was replaced by a new manat.
7) Credit cards: Credit cards are accepted in Baku banks (which tend to close at 4pm)
8) Money exchange: It is advisable to take Euro or US dollar notes with you and exchange them as needed in banks, airports, bureaux de change and hotels.
9) Safety - Azerbaijan is relatively safe, with low criminality. Normal common sense should still be practised, especially at night.
10) Religion - One of the cornerstones of Azerbaijan is the strict separation of state and religion. Most Azerbaijanis are nominally Muslim, though it does not really influence their lives apart from festivals such as Ramadan
11) Medical care is free even for tourists, but it is not always guaranteed outside Baku. It is recommended to take your own first aid kit and copy of a travel insurance policy.
12) Avoid drinking local tap water.
13) Food is an important component of Azerbaijani culture, with influences from Turkey, Georgia, Iran and Central Asia
14) Most internet cafés are called Internet Klub, based in Baku and other densely populated areas
15) There are several providers that offer SIM cards for mobile internet in Azerbaijan, for example, Azercell and Bakcell.
